abstract = "The intensity of land use and land cover changes in Mato Grosso
state, Brazil, in recent years is mainly due to deforestation
process. Driven by the expansion of agriculture and pasture
activity, the deforestation process has become increasingly
vulnerable for the Amazon ecosystem and its forest fragments.
Forest fragmentation could be a process of natural order but it
has been intensified by human activities in recent decades,
increasing the ecosystems vulnerability. The main problems
generated by forest fragmentation are the biodiversity loss, the
species isolation and the exposure of forest fragments to forest
degradation. In this sense, many researches have been using remote
sensing data and techniques to study this processes and its
consequence. Furthermore, the geographic inferences analysis
through geoprocessing techniques and also the use of landscape
metrics can contribute to better understanding the forest
fragmentation vulnerability in the Amazon. In this paper, we
proposed to build different scenarios of forest fragmentation
vulnerability in an Amazon region using fuzzy logic. We used
distance maps as a key indicator of vulnerability to forest
fragmentation. The results were considered satisfactory from a
qualitative point of view, but other applications are needed to
construct forest fragmentation vulnerability models more suitable
to the local reality.",
